Bahamas (Day 2)
In a time
When I want to write
About poor WiFi
Or hit or miss in-room dining
I want to smack myself!
We are in the Bahamas!
It’s a beautiful day
We’re all healthy
We’re all together
Making happy memories
But the burrata
On our Caprese
tasted like bleu cheese
Matt’s chicken au jus was “frigid”
(He over-exaggerates)
But it was as cold as a few
Of my sweet potato fries.
And I want to smack myself!
Because we’re in the Bahamas!
The water is crystal clear blue
But there is also underwear
On the ocean floor
That Ollie dives down to get
Thinking it’s seaweed
And is mistaken
And says “trash!”
And throws it towards me.
He’s thinking “loot!”
And I’m trying to
Not to think
About how
The underwear
Arrived on the beach
From the previous night
And I hope
The salt water
Has killed
Any germs
Ollie might have contracted.
And I want to smack myself!
Because we’re in the Bahamas!!!
Before we left
For the Bahamas
I was walking around
The town we live in
And took note
Of the section 8 driveways
That do not have cars in them
And the infrequent package deliveries this community receives
And the lack of children’s toys I never see strewn about
Like the razor scooters
And trucks
And balls
We have rotting in our back patio.
Three years ago
Matt and I came
To this island (Nassau)
And stayed at a lower end hotel.
We walked by
The hotel we’re staying at now
Only to say
Wow
Must be nice
Even their beach chairs have cushions.
And now we’re here
And instead of thinking about all the things
That we’re disappointed in
Or think could be better
(Compared to other places we’ve traveled—
This is a fair comment)
I’m reminded of
The power of perspective.
And because our WiFi
Is more like NoFi
I’m not certain the photos will load
But I will try anyway:
