What do you do?
When you go to the beach
And you don’t have a book
Or a bursting
bag of toys
Or a bag
Bursting with snacks
Or a bowl full of mush
Or a quiet old lady whispering hush
(reading a lot of children’s books lately)
And forgotten the chub rub
Between the thighs
So a long walk on the beach
Is out
On a hot day
with my daughter
Okay
we brought two toys
And a small towel
Matt always reminds me
Less is more, honey
Less is more
And even though
I always retort
You know
I was just thinking
More is more !
I do wonder
(Don’t ever tell him!!!)
How much we really need
And how much
Nature really provides
Just when you think
you have nothing!
Or you’ve gone to the beach
with a tiny polar bear
And a small dump truck
And that’s all!
And wonder
(Oh this is the good part
I love not knowing!!)
How the morning’s gonna go
when we have so little with us
But then you look around
And you find things
Things that God
Left for you
Like breadcrumbs
(Oh goodie!!!)
I sing
Dragon tales and the water is wide
As many different ways as possible
Thinking
The water really is wide
Here
Reeds become drumsticks
Seashells taste salty
And sandy
Too much sun
On her left arm
I block her
From getting more
A seashell
Caught twice
Between the same toes
Underwater
I wiggle them out
As the waves
Fall into us
I dip our bottoms
Into the ocean
Shake the sand out
I’ve got you
In my arms
We never needed a toy
Or a truck
Or a bowl full of mush
Just us
And a quiet old lady
Whispering hush
Ohh I loved this one! Are you familiar with the Swedish term "lagom"? "not too much, not too little, but just about right" :) My MIL recently gifted me a book on the topic and it feels so right.
