And watching people

Online

But it really

Gets to you

And you start seeing

Text messages

On your phone

To your friends

Or family

About who did what

(And you don’t even know them!)

And to think!

All of your precious life

Wasted

Down the drain

Judging

Someone else

Consumed with other people’s lives

I think

The reason

Favorite books

Is because

Thoreau wrote 18 essays

In 1854

About living simply

For two years

On a Massachusetts pond

Without all the noise

He could think

And communicate

clearly

And experience

The natural world

And his feelings

Without the rat race

Or bold headlines

I wonder

What he would make

Of social media today

I could guess

And probably not be wrong.

I do think it’s contrived

And headliney

Or influencery

To say

“I’m done with social media!”

Especially when I met

A best friend

On Instagram 😂😂😂😂😂😂

But…

I do love my days now

Full of not knowing

And knowing so much more.
