Here’s a video
my son took
of me
at my wits’ end
end of the day
house a mess
nursing the baby
who missed her nap
so I could rush
and get my son
from chess to piano.
On our way
I told him to
take a deep breath
and he reminded me
he didn’t need one
that I did
and we laughed
because he was right
all this rushing
feels like ick
feels like cancer of the moment
feels like screaming
and pulling hair out
and I wonder
how my friends
with three children
manage
on their own.
In any case
like every case
we survived the day
and I lived
to tell this story
about how one act of kindness
one thoughtful thing
can change someone’s ENTIRE day.
Take a look:
I wasn’t sure
how I was going
to feed both children
and bathe them
and make it through the eve
on my own.
And my INCREDIBLE HUMAN BEING
did this for me
and I tell you
this kindness
without asking
for anything in return
made me cry
and immediately
flipped my energy
and my stress levels
like a light switch
from a knotted ball of yarn
to a beautiful silk streamer
on the beach
at sunset
in 70-degree weather.
He then went on
to bathe with our daughter
and read to her
to help me put her
to bed.
I share this
because there is always
a kindness
we can do for someone.
We just have to
pay attention
and start seeing
paths
we can intercede
and help
with the little gestures
like place settings
and putting out dinner
or handwritten cards
or meal trains
or fundraising
or essential resource collecting
for those in need.
Look for a way
there is always a path
to change someone’s day
and maybe their life.
Tears! How beautiful :)
